The H1B Visa, often referred to as a U.S. Work Visa, is a temporary visa that allows highly qualified professionals to work in the United States. It is commonly issued to specialists in fields such as Information Technology, Finance, Medicine, Architecture, Engineering, and Technology.

Education & Work Experience:
Hold a graduate or postgraduate degree from your home country or the U.S.
Have relevant work experience in your field.
Points System:
The U.S. visa system operates on a points-based assessment. You must score at least 12 points to be considered:
1 point for each year of work experience
3 points for each year of school
3 points for higher education
Step 1 – Check Eligibility
Confirm you meet the educational, professional, and points requirements.
Step 2 – Apply for a Job in the U.S.
Look for vacancies with U.S.-based employers in your specialty area.
Step 3 – Employer Initiates the Petition
Your prospective employer must:
Obtain a Labor Condition Application (LCA) from the U.S. Department of Labor.
Guarantee fair wages and safe working conditions.
Disclose job location, company details, and the number of employees.
Step 4 – File a Petition With USCIS
The employer submits Form I-129 to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to request permission to hire you.
This form is also used for:
Extending employment
Hiring for multiple employers
Changing employers
Step 5 – Maintain Supporting Documents
The employer must provide:
Form I-129 with applicable fees
Anti-fraud fee and training fund fee
Company photos and details
Step 6 – USCIS Decision
If approved, USCIS issues Form I-797 (Approval Notice).
Step 7 – Employee Documentation
You must submit:
Valid passport (minimum 6 months)
Previous passports (if applicable)
Visa fee receipts
Photograph (meeting U.S. photo specifications)
Interview appointment letter
Original and copy of Form I-129
Copy of Form I-797
Resume and pay slips (if required)
Step 8 – Apply at the U.S. Embassy
Attend your visa interview at the U.S. Consulate in your home country.
The H1B Visa generally costs between $400–$500. Employers often bear the bulk of the fees, though some charges may apply to the applicant.
The H4 Visa is for dependents of H visa holders, allowing spouses and children under 21 to live in the U.S. It can be used for study or certain types of work, but it is not a permanent residency visa.
